February 11th, 2010My disabled mother got a addendum to her rental agreement today. It states that if it is not signed, she canbe evicted. If addendum states :
Residents SHALL remove clutter.
Residents SHALL keep unit clean. – it is added HOW to clean. Literally.
Residents SHALL avoid using secondhand or rental furniture. – States that if you have to, make sure its clean.
Residents SHALL cover mattress and boxsping with zippered vinyl covering.
Residents shall arrainge furniture to minimize bed bug hiding places.
Now, while some of this is common sense, I takeissue with a few things: Can a managing company require that a California tenent keep plasic coverings on mattresses? can they tell my mother how to clean from her wheelchair, how to arrainge furnature and what she may purchase to furnish her apartment?
Does this scare anyone out there?

Paris Hilton?
How many people here have heard of Dean Kamen?
You may have seen some of his inventions- heck, one of them, the Segway, is becoming common among tourist rental places and law enforcement of big cities.
He built a highly advanced wheelchair that can cover nearly any terrain, even climb stairs, and balance on two wheels.
He built a very articulate robotic arm that offers around 17 degrees of motion to people that have lost their own. Previously, the most you could get about 5 to 7.
Most recently that I heard of, he appeared on the Colbert Report with a very good water purifier that extracted clean water out of anything and everything put in it.
If a man that could change the world isn’t getting recognition and a few dumb celebrities get it because *OH MAH GAWD* they stepped out of a limo with a mini skirt and no underwear, what does that say about us?

My apprehension lightened a bit when the woman assured me that everything would be taken care of. I thanked her profusely.

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the healthcare bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the patient physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a healthcare system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our healthcare system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.
I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.

February 3rd, 2010Such as: Assistance in acquiring a home? We are so strapped by debt from prior marriage (me), and bill/debts due to stolen items from roomies while he was in ICU from a stroke (hubby)… that we will NEVER have a home and be at the mercy of the Landlord’s rental increases…
And having a home that MUST be Universally Designed – meaning – fully and completely handicapped accessible for entry/exit of home, bathtub area, toilet area, kitchen, utility room all need special empty space for turning the wheelchair in comfort…some things raised/some lowered….
I’m at my wit’s end. My debt is now 15k, and I only earn 23k. My hubby is on fixed disability that can pay for rent & food is all. I put my ex-hubby thru Law school, but he cries that he is poor and can’t even repair our old house (that he got in divorce). I can’t leave my employment because it gives partial income & med insurance after retirement, which we need!
