Wheelchair Rental

I know that cast member can get a free wheelchair depending on availability. I am wondering do we get free strollers (single and double) as well? I have looked all over the hub and cant seem to find the answer. Also, I think I might rent an ECV this time when my family is down, Anyone know how much that cost for cast members?

OK, so I want to go as Dr Strangelove, which means I need an old-style unmotorised black leather wheelchair. But most of the wheelchair rental places I’ve found will only rent to people with actual disabilities. Is there anywhere that’ll rent me a wheelchair just for fun?

I’m newly engaged and planning a wedding for the Fall of 2011 (temperatures will be around 75-85 degrees in South Florida.) I’m expecting at least 60 people, but may have a guest list as large as 90. I really want to get married outdoors, but more in a forest or garden type setting rather than at the beach. I’m a big tree-hugger and also I’m not much of a beach person. Another thing to mention, my father who will be "walking" me down the aisle is in a wheelchair, so the aisle needs to be wheelchair friendly. My big problem – everytime I search on the internet for South Florida outdoor wedding venues all I get is beach, beach and more beach.

I’ve looked into state and county parks, but they have a no hard liquor policy, just allowing champagne, wine and beer. Not the end of the world if it comes down to it, but if I could have the outdoors and a tasty margarita too I’d be stoked. If I don’t find an alternate outdoor venue, I’ll probably have the wedding at Fern Forest County Park, which is fine, I’m just exploring my options (if I have any…lol)

I’ve also looked at some vacation home rentals which have nicely landscaped properties and some restaurants which are also pretty outside, but nothing in my price range really grabs me. So if anyone knows of a beautiful nature spot with trees or exceptional gardens, please let me know.

I’ve already looked into the Morikami Museum, and although I love the place itself, it’s too pricy. Same with The Addison, Bonnet House and Sundy House. So those are already out, but I’m sure there are others. (I hope there are others anyway) Botanical gardens, private parks, vacation rentals, restaurants, resorts – I’m open to anything as long as it has an area for an outdoor ceremony which is either forest-like or garden-like and a place where I could also hold my reception, either outdoors in a formal white tent (preferred) or in an indoor ballroom/banquet hall.

ok. so my son is 2 1/2 years old. happy, hyper little boy. we just moved a couple months ago to another apt in the same complex. well the neighbors below us is a handicap old lady that has always been rude to us, ALWAYS. then there is her daughter, her daughters husband/bf/baby daddy(?) and son, plus random people in and out all the time. we have no issues with anyone else in the apartment but the handicap woman. she uses a can and also her electric wheelchair sometimes and uses an air tank. we hear her yelling ALL THE TIME. so my son, being a 2 1/5 year old gets excited and runs around and stomps, when he gets mad/frustrated/throws a tantrum he will kick/stomp/hit/scratch… he stomps more b/c he knows it will get a rise out of us. so when he makes any noise she uses her cane and bangs on her ceiling/our floor. so then he thinks its a game and stomps back. she is the only one in the apartment with an issue btw. so on 4th of july we got back from DC around 11pm, we were in the door for 5 minutes. i got in the shower, i tried to get my son to come in with me(he normally LOVES baths and showers) but he threw a tantrum, so i had my bf come in and get him out of the bathroom to calm him down. the woman (some how quickly being that she is handicap) came up the stairs within the 5 minutes of us being in the door, starting banging our door with her cane, my bf answered and she yelled at him that she was going to call the cops if we didnt keep him quiet. now i get home late from work bc i normally close at starbucks. so i get home around 9:30-11pm depending on when i get out of work. my son gets excited bc im finally home, so i starts running everywhere and wont go to bed without a fight. so i have 2 options, let him stay up till he eventually passes out and try to keep him happy by giving him whatever he wants so he doesnt throw a tantrum. or i can try to get him to bed early and then hes gonna throw a tantrum and stomp and scream. so tonight my son was a little excited, wasnt even as noisy as he usually is. there was a heat and air quality advisory so he didnt get to go play outside all day. i get an officer at my door tonight around midnight bc she called crying and complaining about my son being too loud. he didnt even want to hear me explain anything, he just said he will fine us 0 if he keeps having to come out. WHAT AM I SUPPOSE TO DO???? i feel like im suppose to just let my son get and have whatever he wants just to make this mean and crazy lady happy. i dont want to move again since we just moved (we needed more space thats why we moved). btw, i found out from another neighbor that the people in our apt before us moved bc of the woman downstairs. and we have already talked to our rental office about her in writing 2 times and once in person, but all they can do is talk to her. please… i need any and all GOOD advice. thanks!

btw, i really do pick my battles with my son. if he wants to fall asleep with the lights on i let him, if he wants chocolate milk(not the syrup, i use powder so it has less sugar and more vitamins) instead of white milk, i let him, if he wants to eat peanut butter sandwiches 4 meals in a row i let him. im really lenient with him except for health and safety issues and his stomping. also, i have always been nice to her, shes met my son, she has always been rude to us and "barks" (figure of speech, shes not really barking) at us when we try to be nice to her. and she wont acknowledge us unless she wants to complain.
oh and when we do correct him, we try to stick to our guns about the correction (figure of speech, no actually guns are involved)

I fell while at my former residence where I had lived with my ex . I have never been sick or dependent . I was walking to the trash bin not aware that his personal assistant had moved it to 12 ft. beyond where we had always kept it (around the corner of the house where we did not have to step outside the garage, which required me to walk on wet pavement)Iwas bare footed slipped and fell directly on the lip of the catch that the electric garage door comes down to attach to and split my patella horizontally in half. I dragged myself across the garage up the steps on my rear across the house to wake him up to use his cell to call for my stepson to take me to hospital , realizing he had been at the local bar till 8;40 , it was now 10;00 and he could not drive me. He would not respond and when he did he called me from his darkened room wthout ever getting out of bed that it was not broken and I was to lay down on the couch with ice. I fell again trying to turn back up the hallway to get out of the house for help after pleading with him for 30 mins. and dislocated the patella and tore all the tissues around my knee. I screamed and then he came out and called his son who drove over and called the ambulance.I had pins put in my knee surgery and was on a walker and cast for 2 weeks when his personal assistant now had had the rugs shampooed by her friend ,rugs were too wet and I slipped on the walker fell and sprained my wrist badly . At my scheduled Dr. appt next day I learned I had to go into a emergency surgery with a huge blood clot; had fractured a new part of the patella and blown the pins off to the side opening the original fracture. I had a metal cage put in to hold bone together and was confined to a wheelchair for three months and a commode . etc and had to live at my ex’s because I came from out of state and had no one to help me here he was very abusive to me he had gone back to excessive drinking and pot use. H e is a California attorney and told me as a resident I cannot sue. He does not know I had a signed rental aggreement and my stuff in the garage had been moved 2 days before. By the way the homeowner is a person he paid ,000 to buy in her name because he has a bad history , then he put it into a trust in his sons name age 20. He asked me after I broke off with him for 2 years to come back and live with him he just inherited millions,and better he had been working in law for the first time in 15 years,AND WAS SOBER. I supported him mostly and took on gaurdianship of his son and raised him as my own with no help. That has all changed I gave up my home and came here it was great until ….. How do I sue the owner when her address is at the house and so when shes served Dons personal assistant will probably destroy it. Yes she got him and his money, everyone predicted this, that was a heartbreaker and why I left. I have 2 more months PT that will be a total of 6 months not able to work he provided me with nothing. I moved out day after got out of wheelchair with on a walker as a live babysitter. WHAT IS MY RECOURSE ?

My husband and I are moving to Chattanooga, TN. from Florida but can not make trips up to look at properties and we need a specialist to look for a good rental home for us. I am disabled and can not drive or work. My husband is a hard working man and can not take time off to drive up there, either. He is transferring his job to up there so he’ll still be employed. I am in a wheelchair, so my ramp will only get me up a maximum of 3 steps. We have 3 small (under 15 pounds) dogs. I need to be able to get into a bathroom door entrance with my chair, and the house needs to have most of the living space on one floor. We need a house with a back yard, or a condo with a fenced in patio of some sort, so the dogs can go outside. We need at least a 2 bedroom one bath with a kitchen that has good counter space, more than 3 drawers, and good cabinet space. Oh, and I’ve seen pictures of a place there that was just painted awful colors. So one that doesn’t have ugly carpet and isn’t painted with really ugly colors. Our budget is 0 a month or lower.
There is no ADA to assist us in the transfer. that would be nice, though.

I have called practically every car rental company online and in the phone book, but i cannot locate one with an available vehicle. We are planning a family rip for 9, but one of the members in in a wheelchair and we need to take it with us. Please help!

My wife is permanently disables and (on most days) has extreme difficulty walking – especially anything but a short distance. I typically drive her everywhere, but there are days when she is able to drive herself but even on those days she’s unable to walk any distance.

The condo complex we live in has assigned parking, as well as several 24 hour "visitor" parking spaces.Although we are allowed to park in the 24 hour spots, there are times when I am out of town on business and she is unable to go and move the car before 24 hours are up. This results in a ticket we are forced to pay.

Is there any provision under the ADA that would compel the HOA to swap our assigned spot with a visitor spot that is considerably closer to the lobby/elevator? If so, how should I go about pursuing this? (The complex, which is predominately vacation rentals, thumbs its nose at most ADA issues, refusing to install wheelchair ramps to areas that are only accessible by stairs, harassing us about her service dog, etc.)

My husband and i are moving this fall to a rental that is smaller and cheaper to save for buying a home and due to my being on disability now and lower income. He is very sweet and understanding and does everything to help me. The issue: we are having a lot of trouble finding a one level place with no stairs as i have trouble walking and use a wheelchair most of the time. I say it okay if we have an upstairs or downstairs in the house as long as all rooms i need on main floor like bedroom, bath, kitchen. I am okay with an extra bedroom or office on another floor. He says if we rent something, we should only get one that i have total access to all parts. I am okay with this, he thinks i would be losing out on benefits. for instance, he does all the laundry and if washer/dryer in basement, i not use it anyway. I know he is being sweet but should this bother him so much? Should it bother me more? Am i not seeing the loss of the benefit? What should we do.
we checked with disability agencies, no rentals available they know of that work.

I have an older family member and his wife moving in with me.
He is in a wheelchair with heart and other health problems and he can not fly.
He lives about 2500 miles away from me.
A car would be much too uncomfortable for that distance for him, it’s going to be a long, hard drive as it is.
We’ve looked into an RV, but by the time we pay the rental and the gas, we’ll be out over 3000.dollars.

We’ve considered something like a large van or something, but we haven’t the slightest idea where you rent something like that.

Does anyone have any ideas that we haven’t thought of yet on how to get him here safely and comfortably, but without us having to take out a loan?

The nearest and dearest people to me really got to me today. I feel guilty for feeling upset. I am really easy going now and open minded. However maybe I should feel bad. For starters my friends asked me to babysit their daughter last night after inviting me to go out with them. It worked out because I really didn’t want to go anyway, but I thought that was a little odd if they wanted me to go with them so bad earlier this week.. So I took the girl to church, shopping, dinner and a movie. She spent the nite last night. They just came while ago to pick her up. I told them I was fixing dinner and they sounded happy because they had not eaten. I told them it wasn’t the greatest but they still wanted it. When they got here they didn’t eat a thing. I just told them they were welcome to eat and they didn’t respond. I asked the guy if he would look at my satellite because it hadn’t been working all week. He looked at the box and the tv and said he couldn’t fix it. Later he said something about his friend in a wheelchair that always expected him to do things for him and he stopped going there because he didn’t owe him anything. I don’t think of him that way at all and I don’t ask for much but I wondered if he was telling me that story for a reason. He is buying some land from me and he told me he wanted to buy my rental house which is not for sale. He said he wanted to fix it up and burn it down to get insurance money. He made me feel like an idiot. Then my husband gets on the phone with him and tells him he can have his white German Shepard dog that I bought for him as a present back in May. It is tearing up my house and yard and I just got it to my house before we got married last weekend. (He went back to his Navy base) I paid a lot of money for that dog…like 750 dollars. I feel like he should not just want me to give it away although I probably should. Again I am pissed. Then I was on the phone with my husband and I the guy friend was joking around as usual and saying perverted comments like can we trade women and stuff and my husband got mad and hung up on me. I didn’t flirt with him and now he thinks I was flirting. The guy friend is very close to us and always says funny stuff and has never ever really hit on me. He is so in love with my friend. He would never do that. Earlier today my husband told me that I could not use any money in the account because he had spent a lot going back to his base. He bought stupid stuff with it. I can’t even pay the tags on my car or any bills. I don’t have any money. Then he tells me he is going out to eat with his friends again today and to the mall and then to starbucks. ??????? oooooooooooooo. Then he says when you get you money from (the friend) for your land can we go to Vegas during Christmas. He wants to go there because his new friend in the Military is from there and he will show us around. Then he said he wanted me to buy him a plane ticket to come home with.

I hope you will write your elected officials and express your opinion about the government health care bill they are trying to ram down our throats. If you don’t take time now, don’t whine later when all this below, and more, is implemented. It will be too late to complain then.
Dear Congressman Mack,

I figure you will not vote for the health care behometh, but thought you might want to run this by your wife, since she had a mental lapse and voted for cap and trade. I also figure you have not read this health care bill, since it is over 1100 pages. I have actually read a lot of it, and it is laughable to think that all this bureaucracy could possibly improve efficiency or decrease cost of health care. I say if the government cannot run the country any better than you have done recently, stay the hell out of health care. This summary below you can check on the link at the bottom- This bill is unconstitutional on its face- and the page 59 summary statement alone is enough to let me know I want no part of this.
